 Microsoft Certified Professional

Microsoft Certified Professional

Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) refers to the broad certification program for Microsoft, although it can also refer to an individual candidate who had completed any one exam within the program (subject to some exclusions).

The MCP program offers multiple certifications, based on different areas of technical expertise. To attain these certifications, a candidate must pass a series of exams within the program. The current certifications are Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS), Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD), Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) and the Microsoft Certified Architect (MCA).

Popular previous generation certifications include Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) and Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA).

Some employers require or prefer certain MCP certifications for specific jobs that involve Microsoft products and technologies. Other vendors have their own certification programs such as the Sun Certified Professional program, the Red Hat Certification Program, the Oracle Certification Program, the Cisco Career Certifications program, the Ubuntu Certified Professional program and the Apple Certification Program.

In the developed world, each exam costs approximately US$125. Exams usually take between 2 and 3 hours to complete and consist of between 45 and 90 multiple choice, drag and drop, solution building questions and simulated content within exams where students are required to perform certain common administrative tasks appropriate for the topic at hand.

 Caring for Your Eyes

Caring for Your Eyes
Everyone needs – and deserves – healthy sight. While genetics can play a role in the quality of your overall vision, the things you do every day can also have a huge impact.

Getting Check-Ups
One of the most important things you can do is have regular eye exams.

The frequency of your eye exams depends on your age and other risk factors. Consult your eyecare professional to find out how often you should have your eyes checked.

Comprehensive eye exams can uncover problems before symptoms occur and can even assist in early detection of other serious health problems – including diabetes or high blood pressure.

If you experience trouble seeing or any other eye-related symptoms, contact your eyecare professional immediately. If you don’t have a preferred eye doctor, consider using our eyecare professional locator to identify an eyecare professional in your area.

Healthy Lifestyle
Keeping your eyes healthy goes hand in hand with keeping the rest of your body healthy. Some of the same healthy habits that protect your general health also promote eye health, such as:

Eating well
Drinking water to hydrate your body and your eyes
Not smoking
Considering appropriate vitamin supplements
Wearing ultraviolet (UV) protection

Antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and carotenoids such as Lutein and Zeaxanthin have shown some promise in research studies at reducing the risk and progression of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Other Healthy Sight Habits

Treating eye problems with proper medications when prescribed
Using the right lighting – particularly when reading or doing other close work
Understanding how glare affects vision and the dangers of UV radiation
Talking to your eyecare professional about medications you may be taking as some medications have ocular side effects that you should be aware of

Glare
Glare, or extreme brightness, can be distracting and even dangerous. It can be present day or night in a number of situations, such as moving from shade into bright sunlight or when light reflects off of other surfaces.

Glare can cause squinting, eye strain, eye fatigue, and in extreme cases, temporary blindness. Glare can impair visual comfort and visual quality, which can diminish healthy sight.

Transitions? lenses with anti-reflective coating are the optimal choice for reducing all types of glare and improving overall quality of vision.

UV Radiation
Every day—sunny or cloudy, summer or winter -- you are exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun that can damage your eyes. You may not even realize it, as UV radiation is invisible to the eyes.

Exposure to UV light can "sunburn" the eye's surface and cause benign yellowish growths on the eye. UV damage also builds over time. Prolonged exposure to harmful UVA and UVB radiation over a lifetime can contribute to serious age-related eye conditions or diseases, including cataracts and macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in people over 60 years old.

Photochromic Transitions lenses block 100% of UVA and UVB rays to protect the health of your eyes.

Protecting Your Eyes
Choosing eyewear such as Transitions Lenses to block 100% of harmful UV rays and reduce glare, affects how well you can see now, and in the future.

Protecting your eyes also means wearing the proper protective gear when playing sports and in certain job situations to physically protect your eyes and shield them from impact.

Protecting Your Children’s Eyes
It is important to protect children’s eyes with the right eyewear to prevent ocular trauma and damage from UV rays. Transitions lenses provide everyday protection for children who wear prescription eyeglasses. They block 100% of UV radiation and are available in sturdy, lightweight, shatter-and-impact resistant materials. Vision care in childhood can impact healthy sight for a lifetime.
Did you know:
Nearly half of traumatic eye injuries relate to ball sports
45% of these occur in children under the age of 14
90% of these are preventable
80% of lifetime UV ray exposure occurs prior to age 18

 Understanding Your Prescription

Understanding Your Prescription

Once you have completed an eye exam, if your vision needs correction, your eyecare professional will help you choose lenses which are right for you.

Eyeglass prescriptions are typically hand-written and full of abbreviations and numbers that are meaningful to an eyecare professional, just as medication prescriptions are meaningful to a pharmacist.

Not all doctors format prescriptions the same way. The best way to understand your specific prescription is to go over it with your eyecare professional.

Here are some abbreviations you may see on your prescription and what they stand for:

D.V. is an abbreviation for "distance vision".
N.V. is an abbreviation for "near vision"
O.D. stands for oculus dexter, which is Latin for "right eye"
O.S. stands for oculus sinister, which is Latin for "left eye"
SPH means "sphere" and corresponds to numbers that indicate the degree to which you are near-sighted or far-sighted
CYL means "cylinder" and corresponds to numbers indicating the amount of astigmatism you have
AXIS corresponds to numbers indicating the orientation of your astigmatism
Prism is a prescription element added if your eyes need help working more effectively together or staying in proper alignment.
PD stands for pupillary distance and measures the distance between your pupils in millimeters. This measurement helps ensure your prescription is properly placed in your frames.
Seg Height is important when fitting multifocal lenses. It is a measure of where your lenses and frames sit relative to your pupils.
We recommend that you discuss your specific prescription with your eyecare professional so that you fully understand the prescription and its implications.
